Before pregnancy was even on my radar, I struggled with GI issues, hormone imbalances, anxiety, and undiagnosed PCOS for years. Optimizing my health for conception was a long road filled with twists and turns.

 

After what my body had been through, I knew I needed time to restore health from a foundational level. So that’s what I did: I spent three years preparing my body for my first pregnancy. 

 

Even after conception, my road through pregnancy wasn’t perfect either. After giving myself some time to sulk, it sunk in: This wasn’t happening to me, this was happening for me. 

 

Leaning on the experience I had gained and taking the time to optimize nutrition, movement, and mindset, allowed me to conceive when I was ready and helped me navigate pregnancy. I successfully managed the hurdles of each stage and had a natural and unmedicated birth of a healthy 6 lbs 12 oz baby boy.

 

I’m telling you this to show that no matter where you are starting from now, you can feel empowered and in control of your own fertility destiny … because you are.

Here’s your plan for how you can move forward in those specific areas:

MINDSET

At this stage, you have a close relationship with your body. But that said, it might be time to zoom out and look at the bigger picture. Are you still supporting the foundational building blocks of fertility? How can you create a more aligned relationship with your body? Reflecting on questions like these can help you reset as needed, if needed.

NUTRITION + NERVOUS SYSTEM

Your nutrition may be on point, but your nervous system is another story. A hyperfocus on fertility has led to elevated levels of stress—which in turn produces the opposite result of what you want. Of course, you can’t just "turn off" fertility stress, but you can support your body and nervous system in becoming more resilient under stressful circumstances. Right now, it might help to make activities like breathing exercises and meditation your BFF.

CIRCADIAN RHYTHM

At this stage, you’re ready to fully optimize your circadian rhythm and perfect your sleep and wake cycles. You may already have a great sleep and wake routine, but one final element you should include is daily sun exposure at 3 peak times of the day, first thing in the morning, midday, and as the sun is setting—or light therapy if daily sun isn’t always in the cards for you.

CYCLE HEALTH

By now you’re well acquainted with your cycle, but have you gotten curious about your hormone metabolism and how your hormones fluctuate during your cycle? Get down to the nitty-gritty with a DUTCH Test—a complete hormone test designed to help you get the full picture of your hormones.

Yes, movement is great for fertility, but there is such a thing as too much. Focus on restorative exercises rather than pushing it to the limit every time, and make sure you leave ample time for recovery.
